Dietary supplements are having a major moment in the wellness scene right now. From CBD to functional mushrooms and antioxidants it constantly feels there’s a new “it” supplement every week.
For my own health benefits, I’ve been doing research into this world of supplementation to find one that would be a good additive to my wellness routine.
It is important to pause here and note that supplements should not be used in replacement of the nutrients and vitamins that you get through eating a healthy diet rich in plant-based foods. Rather is should be look to as a second layer of defense for your body as none of us likely eat perfectly balanced, nutrient-rich meals everyday. It is also worth noting that soil depletion over the years caused by modern intensive agricultural practices has affected how much nutrients are actually in our foods compared to even a decade ago. So, adding in an extra boost via supplementation is not a bad idea.
After hearing about it on a few podcasts that I listen to, I decided to test out Alaya Naturals Green Superfood powder. I purchased the raspberry flavored option as I felt like this might be one that I’d have to choke down. As with any powder blend the challenge of keeping it mixed up while trying to drink and the grittiness from particles that don’t fully dissolve into the water was a problem here too but gotta make some sacrifices for the sake of nutrition. Regardless, the Green Superfood doesn’t taste bad, just healthy. It’s not something that I feel like I have to chug down to get it over with.
Let’s get to the benefits. This superfood powder is packed full of antioxidants and rich with organic superfoods. It also contains adaptogens like ashwagandha root, reishi mushroom, turmeric Root and chaga mushroom as well as a probiotic to make it the ideal nutrient boost. If you blend it with water, it only clocks in at 25 calories a serving.
Is it worth buying? Im my opinion, yes. At the least for an additional nutrient boost in your diet. It’s packed with so many good-for-you things that it would be hard to argue against it.
Lastly, I’ll leave you with this. A few weeks ago near the end of a workday, I noticed that all the sudden a really painful-to-the-touch pimple had popped up on my chin out of nowhere. I did not wake up with it, it just appeared. This was the kind of pimple that is just under the surface of your skin and is super sore and inflamed. I ended up drinking my Supergreens blend that night and 30 minutes or so later for some reason, I touched my pimple again and it was significantly less inflamed and sore. To the point where it was almost gone. What?! During the time between discovering the pimple and drinking the powder I did nothing else that could have affected it. Between the supergreens, antioxidants and adaptogens in this powder, there’s something super powerful in there that did this. So if that’s not reason enough to drink this than I don’t know what is!
